University of Ulster Magee Teaching Centre

Northern Ireland

This new £11-million-pound teaching block further enhances the teaching facilities on offer at the University of Ulster’s Magee Campus located in Derry/Londonderry.

This new 4 storey building provides an additional 4000 sq. meters of space on campus and includes a 314 seat lecture theatre, two smaller theatres, 20 classrooms, student hubs and a café.

ATC Systems Ltd where awarded the contract for the supply and commissioning of the MCC’s and Trend BMS by Harvey Group and in partnership with them have again delivered a first class project.

The building is primarily naturally ventilated using the Window Master System with Bacnet interface to the Trend BMS. Heating is provided by gas fired boilers serving the underfloor heating manifolds which are fully controlled by the BMS. The air handling units are packaged with on board control system which is interfaced with the BMS via Bacnet.

Control of air quality is maintained via Co2 sensors installed in all of the teaching spaces and connected to the BMS which then controls of the operation of the respective Natural Ventilation louvres to maintain comfort conditions for building occupants.

All BMS outstations and interface controllers are connected onto the client IT network which provides the building with reliable and robust communications and offers remote access for Estates Staff to the BMS from any University of Ulster campuses.

The project was successfully completed on time, with handover achieved on the 30th November 2017 with the University opening the new block at the end of January 2018.
